for the next...

Here are some of the feedbacks from the 23 - 24 August gathering:

 On PRAYER

  • It helps me to know the Divine Office more.
  • Helped me to understand different ways of prayer
  • Sharing God´s Words from real life
  • Silence/ prayer from the heart brings me closer to God/Holy Spirit
  • The prayer was so divine

On the SESSIONS

1st session  (Genesis 4 and 5)
·         Very, very enriching as I can personally relate to the way of Cain and Seth.
·         Could understand the bloodline of Adam and Eve.
·         Allowed me to realize that what happens now is connected to our roots one way or another.
·         Helped me to discover the beauty of the Scriptures, the names that God gives to His people

2nd  session (Luke 3:1-6)
·         Very, very good and meaningful.  It opens up my understanding of the fig tree and the vine.  It is so beautifully presented.
·         Understood that we are fig tree and how God loves us and we allow Him to use us as instruments for the younger generations.
·         That the leaders not only believes but they have to dig deeper first and foremost before leading a group.

·         Discovered my state as a fig tree and what quality I have

Single Young Adults Say Yes to Love and Belongingness

No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for his friend (John 15:13). This Gospel verse was the central theme of the Single Young Adults Gather-ing on 14 – 15 June 2013 at the Assumption Formation Centre in Penang. It was a follow-up of the Lenten Retreat for  single young adult held at Stella Maris Retreat Centre in March of this year.

This time, Fr. David Reegon, OFMCap shared to the 16 participants his reflections on belonging and faithfulness to God and at the same time, belonging to the community.

Journey to the Foot of the Cross

Forty-one single young adults take a journey to the foot of the cross on 16 March at Stella Maris Retreat Centre, Penang.

The retreat ‘A Journey to the Foot of the Cross’ was organized by the Penang Diocesan Youth Network (PDYN), with Fr. David Reegon, OFM Cap as the retreat master. It began at 9.00am and ended at 6.00pm.

Fr David’s input was based on the gospel of Luke, chapter 23, verse 22 onwards. He led the participants to a deeper understanding of the Crucifixion of Christ based on those gospel passages, stressing on the importance of meditating on the Cross and of spending time with God in silence.

Fr David also shared his reflections on the ‘Irony of Taunt’, which was then followed by small group sharing and reflection. The participants were inspired to express their need to know Jesus more and have a keen desire to follow His example of going against the ‘norms’ and to be effective witnesses.

In the afternoon, after lunch, the participants watched a movie entitled ‘The Passion’ by Dough Barry. ‘The Passion’ is a one-man stage production, a dramatic account reflecting on the passion of Jesus Christ.

The highlight of the retreat came towards the end of the retreat with the ‘Lenten Ritual’. After some prayers, participants were given some time to write down on a small piece of paper, their prayers and concerns. One by one, they then went up to a wooden cross, and stick the papers on the cross.

This was followed by Mass, of which the papers on the cross were burned and offered up during the presentation of gifts.

Some of the participants commented that the retreat had been very fruitful to them as it helps them to renew their faith.

PDYN will be organizing a follow-up activity after Easter.
